ABSENTEE BALLOTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE ACROSS NEW HAMPSHIRE

CONCORD, NH (July 27, 2020) The Secretary of State’s office announces that absentee ballots for the 2020
elections have been sent to every city and town across New Hampshire. All city and town clerks’ offices now
have these ballots in-hand, and are able to send absentee ballots to New Hampshire voters who request them.

In light of COVID-19, New Hampshire voters who are ill due to COVID-19, are caring for someone with
COVID-19 or symptoms, or who are concerned that voting in person will expose themselves or others to
COVID-19, are able to vote by absentee ballot.

Absentee ballots can be requested through your local city or
town clerk’s office. The Secretary of State’s office encourages anyone wishing to vote by absentee to make
that request at their earliest opportunity.

As we approach the 2020 elections, it is critically important to get accurate answers to your elections-related questions. Granite Staters should remember that their local and state election officials are their trusted sources
of election information.

Further guidance for voting during COVID-19 can be found on the Secretary of
State’s website at http://sos.nh.gov/VotingEmergency.aspx.

Winter is coming and its time to start thinking of home heating. Things have been tough and its okay to reach out if you think your going to need it over the next coming months. Strafford County has programs that may be able to offer you some assistance.

The federally funded Low-Income Home Energy Program (LIHEAP), also known as the Fuel Assistance Program (FAP), provides qualified households with assistance in paying their heating bills during the winter heating season. Benefits are calculated based on number of household members, household income, energy costs and housing type among other things. This allows those households with the lowest incomes and highest energy costs to receive the highest benefits. Applications are taken through their Client Service Offices in Dover and Rochester. You can visit their website for more information: https://straffordcap.org/fuel-assistance/

They are there to help the community

Without the services provided by the agency for the past 55 years, many local residents would be without a means to provide for their basic needs, including food, education, child care, utilities assistance, transportation, housing, emergency shelter and access to other services.

Community Action Partnership of Strafford County is a 501(c)(3) private nonprofit organization established under the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964 and established in Strafford County in May of 1965.

I would like to highlight a couple of the services that are available:

Healthy Families America Home Visiting Program

Through the Healthy Families America Program at CAPSC, home visiting services are available from the time you become pregnant until your child turns three. We offer free, voluntary and flexible support where and when you need it. Benefits of home visits include:

  • Coping with the stress of raising a family
  • Accessing information to keep your baby healthy and safe
  • Getting resources and help
  • Connecting with other parents
  • Understanding your baby’s emotions, needs, cues and behaviors
Family Wellness Program

We offer a voluntary, free home visiting service, available to families who have children through age 20. This program focuses on prevention and promoting self-sufficiency. Home visitors work with families for up to one year to achieve goals developed by families. Benefits of our Family Wellness Program include:

Workforce Development

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) is an employment and training program funded by the U.S. Department of Labor to help dislocated workers and other eligible adults access tools to manage their careers through information and high-quality services, and to help U.S. companies find skilled workers. Community Action Partnership of Strafford County and the other New Hampshire Community Action Agencies are key partners in delivering these statewide employment and training services. The program is contracted through the Department of Business and Economic Affairs (BEA) Office of Workforce Opportunity (OWO), with Southern NH Services serving as the statewide program administrator. The WIOA program helps displaced and economically disadvantaged workers get jobs and—where appropriate—provides training for in-demand occupations through NH Works offices around the state. Activities to assist the unemployed include help with resume writing and interviewing, as well as assessment of abilities and skill levels to match people with jobs. WIOA Career Navigators work with individuals who are 18 and older and meet program guidelines.

Workplace Success

Launched in 2006, the Workplace Success (WPS) Program is funded by the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The program is a collaboration between the Division of Family Assistance and the New Hampshire Community Action Agencies, with the goal of enabling TANF recipients to move from welfare to work. Workplace Success provides participants in the New Hampshire Employment Program (NHEP) with the skills, knowledge, experience and support needed to obtain paid employment.

The program prepares participants to enter the workforce by providing them a broad range of workforce development services, starting with an in-depth vocational assessment process and culminating with a personal career plan.
